Horror Hour

I love horror movies. I can never seem to get truly scared tho, which is unfortunate. Listing my favorite horror films would be lame in July, but posting my favorite foreign horror/suspense/thriller films now is completely acceptable. America, learn to love fucking subtitles. Reading won't kill you.

Here we go... in no particular order:

Audition - A Japanese Horror film that is so creepy and amazing.
"A widower takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife."  Doesn't sound scary does it? Just watch, I refuse to give anymore of this movie away!


Susperia - Mostly in English, this film is a classic by the director Dario Argento.
"A newcomer to a fancy ballet academy gradually comes to realize that the staff of the school are actually a coven of witches bent on chaos and destruction." 

Splice - I'm cheating a bit here, it is Canadian, but it is still one bad ass Sci-Fi flick!
"Genetic engineers Clive Nicoli and Elsa Kast hope to achieve fame by successfully splicing together the DNA of different animals to create new hybrid animals for medical use."

I Saw The Devil - This is an amazing Korean thriller that is creepy, dark and terrifying.
"When his pregnant fiancee becomes the latest victim of a serial killer, a secret agent blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge."

Dumplings - It is gross, really gross and creepy. Oh and it is a Chinese horror film.
"In Hong Kong, Aunt Mei is a cook famous for her home-made rejuvenation dumplings, based on a millenarian recipe prepared with a mysterious ingredient that she brings directly from China."

Black Christmas (1974) - They did a remake of this Canadian classic and it was a wreck, this one is chilling!
"A sorority house is terrorized by a stranger who makes frightening phone calls and then murders the sorority sisters during Christmas break."

Eden Lake - A British horror film that will make you fear children even more! Michael Fassbender is in this one, I believe it was one of his first starring roles.
"Refusing to let anything spoil their romantic weekend break, a young couple confront a gang of loutish youths with terrifyingly brutal consequences."

Ils (Them) - This French film is very creepy and will make you fear chi... wait, yes again!
"Lucas and Clementine live peacefully in their isolated country house, but one night they wake up to strange noise... they're not alone... and a group of hooded assailants begin to terrorize them throughout the night."

The Descent - Another creepy British film. You won't fear kids, but maybe something else.
"A caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators."

Let The Right One In - This was remade in the States as "Let Me In" and it was awful, the original Swedish version is a drama/thriller/romance that has creepy themes. Very good!
"Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire."

Spoorloos (The Vanishing) - Another film remade here in the states. I beg of you to watch the original Dutch version. It is a very interesting thriller/mystery that ends with a bang!
"Rex and Saskia, a young couple in love, are on vacation. They stop at a busy service station and Saskia is abducted. After three years and no sign of Saskia, Rex begins receiving letters from the abductor."

Oldboy (2003) - I have to add a date to this brilliant Korean thriller because Spike Lee is remaking it for American audiences. Please do not wait to see the story in English, watch the subtitled Korean version. It is amazing. I promise it is worth your time!
"After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days."

The Orphanage  - A beautiful Spanish/Mexican horror/thriller film that involves what else, kids!
"A woman brings her family back to her childhood home, where she opens an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long, her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend."

A lot of films, all great. Horror films are universal, probably because fear is universal and the main things we all fear are similar. I suggest you find a way *cough* download *cough* these films online and watch these amazing movies. They are all pretty scary and this is coming from a girl who finds it difficult to be scared. These are all "R" rated I'd say just for gore and subject matter alone. Trust me, the Asian horror movies don't hold back. Notice how I didn't add the original "Ring" or "The Grudge"? Yeah, they are great, but I'm sure you all know about them.

The Soundtrack of My Life

I promised music and I shall deliver! I think I'll just link to some CDs that have been on repeat lately.

1) I love this CD. The band put out a second CD and I was just confused as to what I was listening to. Not that great, but their first CD still remains a staple in my collection.
Nightmare of You - Nightmare of You

2) One of my favorite bands ever. Their latest CD is just "meh" but their other ones are amazing. Parade has been on repeat lately.

Of All The Gin Joints

Title refers to 2 things... a movie and a song. Although I think this post is going to deal with films. First off I am a movie freak. I'm the person who watches all kinds of stuff and love the movies that get nominated for Oscars. I will post more specific stuff about films, but for now here is my list of movies I've rated on IMDB:
Megan's Movie/TV Ratings

I love every genre of film, but I need to let the world know two things. 1) The Hangover isn't funny. I love comedies. They are great! I watched this film twice and the only slight laugh I made was when they mentioned Gremlins, because that movie fucking rules! 2) The Dark Knight is a terrible movie. It made no sense what so ever.

Watch Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle (Nikki and I's staple as 16/15 yr old girls) and Dude Where's My Car... mash those together and it is similar to The Hangover, except they are both ridiculous and funny. As for The Dark Knight, just watch Spiderman 1 & 2 with Tobey McGuire. The two best Superhero films ever.

I'll update this or write a new post on films. I've seen some pretty dope movies and want other people to see them too. Korean horror/Chinese horror films... amazing.
